I come from a steel fabricator internal drawing office background, rather than a drawing office only business, so understand first-hand the plights of the workshop staff/site erectors and the importance of a quality and thorough draughting process to produce accurate shop drawings.

Having worked with other drawing office only business’s I have witnessed first hand that their interests do not always align with that of their client, the steel fabricator.

My aim is to bridge that gap and go the extra mile for the steel fabricator to deliver a superior product and be an integral part of the team.

Ability to lead and project manage contracts by liaising direct with the design team ie, Architects, Engineers and sub-contractors to streamline and speed up the detailing process.

Ability to propose alternative connections

Ability to propose alternative connections to the design team to ease fabrication and install. If time allows, a period of ‘Value Engineering’ can be adopted between detailer and steel fabricator.

Ability to highlight and quantify variations

Ability to highlight and quantify variations between steel fabricator and the client. During the technical shop drawing stage intricacies can live within answers to RFI’s and Site Reports/Client Instructions so detailer can tabulate these and bring them to the forefront.

Prepared to travel for project/site meetings

Prepared to travel for project/site meetings. Face-to-face at this technical stage opens up and clears communication channels and reduces paperwork/admin for all concerned.

Prepared to travel for site measures. Having the detailer extract the information from site themselves cuts out the chance of miscommunication and allows the detailer to get the information they require to complete shop drawings.

Project Cycle:

  1. Coordination of steel structure between other subtrades, eg, Precast panel manufacturer.
  2. Document, record and chase RFI’s complete with RFI Register to monitor and track progress.
  3. Extensive document management skills.
  4. Record and document meeting minutes to maintain open communication.
